On Friday, August 23rd, fifty years after Neil Armstrong stepped onto the lunar surface, the heavenly surroundings of Coventry Cathedral will provide the venue for Interstellar, an ambitious musical event featuring the 50-piece Limelight Orchestra.
Performing uplifting rock and pop hits by the likes of David Bowie, ELO and Elton John, the two-hour Interstellar extravaganza will also see the cathedral lit up by a spectacular lighting show and state-of-the-art 3D holograms.
“This is going to be an amazing event in an incredible location,” said Paul Brindley, of organisers Secret Symphony.
“We have been working on this for a long time and have put together an amazing musical event that people won’t forget. We’re over the moon with the results.
“The combination of the themed light show, 3D holograms, a 50-piece orchestra and the incredible acoustics of the cathedral will provide a fitting way of celebrating half a century since man made it to the moon.
“This will be one of the biggest musical nights in the Midlands this year.”
The Limelight Orchestra are a versatile collaboration of musicians from across the Midlands, incorporating brass, strings, percussion, and rhythm sections supporting impressive vocalists.
Songs featured on the night also include Sleeping Satellite by Tasmin Archer, Man on the Moon by REM and Mr Blue Sky by ELO.
The Interstellar event in Coventry on August 23rd is one of a number being organised at Midlands cathedrals, including Birmingham and Lichfield, with other shows also being staged at Lincolnshire Showground and Nottingham’s Motorpoint Arena.
“We’re very excited about all the Interstellar shows,” Paul said, “but the Coventry Cathedral one feels extra special – because it’s such an amazing place with incredible acoustics.
“Coventry has pioneered the use of light shows to light up the cathedral and the iconic ruins in recent years too, but they will never have seen anything like this before – our 3D holograms have to be seen to be believed. They are cutting-edge stuff.”
Interstellar is at Coventry Cathedral, on Friday, August 23rd, and features both a matinee and evening show.
